Thuja (Western Red Cedar) hedging and specimen plants are probably the best hedging conifer for Scotland. Thuja is less vigorous then leylandii hedging, breaking from old wood, so they are easier to prune. Thuja is tolerant of heavy soils, ideal for coastal or seaside areas. Western Red Cedar is one of the more popular evergreen conifers for hedging in the UK. Fully hardy and tolerant of most soil types. Ultimate height and spread - 20-30m in 20 years.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun to partial shade, moist, well-draining soil. Planting should be about 60cm apart for hedge.
NOTE: Scot Plants Direct can only supply Rootballed plants when they are dormant during the winter months but you can PRE ORDER now to ensure an early delivery date at the start of the season in November.
