Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) one of Scotland's commonest trees is an excellent food source for birds. It is one of the best suited trees, for gardens large or small for the Scottish weather. Rowan is a small to medium size tree with attractive deciduous foliage, and bunches of familiar long lasting red or fiery orange berries. Rowan plants are good for under planting with other shrubs, and can be included in traditional hedging schemes or as stand alone specimen trees. They produce a mass of white-cream flowers in May-June followed by masses of long lasting berries.
