It has long narrow leaves with white undersides, that give the tree a shimmering effect when caught in a breeze. Willow trees are very adaptable and will grow in almost any condition. They love the waterlogged, boggy sites, but will also thrive in windy, exposed locations such as the seaside.
The Willow is fast growing and can reach heights of about 25m, but can be pruned to a more manageable height.
Where to Plant
Best planted in full sun or sunny spot, chalk, clay, limestone, light sandy soil types, and of course the waterlogged, wet, boggy locations that most other plants will not thrive.
Red Willow is easy to grow and can be used as screening, sound barrier hedge plants, coppicing, etc.
