Blueberries are one of the easiest and most rewarding fruit bushes to grow. They are packed with antioxidants, perfect for fresh eating, baking, smoothies, and freezing for later use.

Blueberry bushes are attractive ornamental plants too, with spring flowers, colourful autumn foliage, and delicious summer fruit.

Blueberries can be grown:

  • In garden borders
  • In raised beds
  • In large patio containers
  • In small gardens and courtyards

With the correct acidic soil conditions, blueberry plants are low maintenance and highly productive.

Types of Blueberries to Try

Northern Highbush Blueberries

Reliable and hardy varieties such as Jersey, Blue Crop, Duke, Spartan and Northland are ideal for most UK climates and produce excellent crops.

Southern Highbush Blueberries

Varieties such as Ozark Blue perform well in milder regions and can offer extended cropping seasons.

Unique & Specialty Varieties

Pink Lemonade offers unusual pink berries, while compact varieties such as Hortblue Petite are ideal for container growing.

How to Plant Blueberries

You should choose a sunny, well-drained site with acidic-pH soil for growing blueberry bushes. Most soils may have to be amended to reach the recommended pH — incorporate some rhododendron / azalea compost into the planting site and that will ensure a proper environment.

  • Note: All blueberry bushes are VAT-free.
