Ilex Crenata Hedge Plants or Japanese Holly is a good alternative to Box (Buxus Sempervirens) hedging. It is a compact, evergreen shrub making a great low hedge, or can be used topiary.

Ilex Crenata is resistant to box blight and not prone to leaf scorch. It is hardy and will tolerate most soil types, except wet soils. Can be planted in sull sun to partial shade and as a low hedge is very easy to maintain. Ilex Crenata also regenerates from old wood making this easy to reshape if neglected. It is also ideal for northern or cold areas as well as coastal gardens.
