Green Privet (Ligustrum Ovalifolium)

Privet hedge plants (Ligustrum ovalifolium) are the workhorse of the British hedge: fast-growing, semi-evergreen, and proven in UK gardens for over a century. Privet has dark-green oval leaves, small white summer flowers, and tolerates almost any soil. It's a top choice for boundaries, screening, and coastal gardens. Fast establishment, easy to manage with two trims a year.

Ligustrum ovalifolium (Privet) Hedging Plants

Available in bare root (despatched November to April, the most economical option), pot grown (plant any time of year), and rootball sizes. Standard spacing is 3 plants per metre for a dense single-row hedge.

  • Pre-order bare root Privet now for delivery from November. Bare-root plants are despatched while dormant and offer the best value per metre on longer hedges.
  • Wild Privet (Ligustrum vulgare) also available — the native British species, ideal for conservation and country hedges.
  • Golden Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium 'Aureum') for variegated yellow-green foliage that lifts shaded corners.
