Laurel (Prunus) Hedging - Pot Grown

Laurel hedge plants are tough, fast-growing evergreens with thick glossy leaves — the workhorse of UK screening and privacy hedging. Once established they form a dense, vigorous green wall that takes hard pruning, tolerates shade, and gives full year-round coverage. ScotPlants Direct stocks three of the most popular varieties: Common Laurel (Prunus rotundifolia), Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) and Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica).

Pot-grown Laurel hedging

Pot-grown laurel can be planted any month of the year — the most flexible option if you've missed the bare-root window (November to April) or want a hedge in season. We stock pot-grown sizes for fast establishment and immediate hedge presence.

  • Common / Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus / rotundifolia) — the classic, fast-growing screening hedge with broad glossy leaves. Standard spacing 60-90cm between plants.
  • Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) — smaller darker leaves, more compact habit, takes formal shaping. Good box substitute at greater height.

Looking for bare-root laurel?

For longer hedges where budget matters most, see our bare-root Laurel hedging (available November to April), or our rootball Laurel for larger established plants.
