Description
Popular small tree or shrub for moist areas of the garden. Salix nishiki is known by many names and is very popular in home garden landscapes. Salix Nishiki or Dappled Willow is one of the smaller members of the willow family grown as a small tree or a large shrub. Growth habit is slightly upright, showing off its variegated shades of white, pink and green, and finally maturing to a green and cream.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun for best colours, dappled shade. Thrives in consistently moist soils but tolerates somewhat drier soils better than many other willows. Ultimate height and spread 3ft x 6ft. Prune back late winter to early spring to encourage more vigorous growth and control plant size.
Common questions
Bare root plants are field-grown and lifted dormant — the cheapest way to plant a hedge. Pot grown plants have an established root system and can be planted year-round. Root ball plants are mature field-grown plants lifted with a soil ball for instant height.
Pot grown plants can go in the ground at any time of year. Bare root is supplied dormant from November to March, and root ball plants are lifted in that same window.
