Description

Photinia Red Robin is an extremely popular evergreen garden plant and great for hedging, screening.  Its bright reddish-brown young growth is very showy but comes early and can be an excellent show for gardens.  Photinia is tough and it’s showy growth begins early in spring with insignificant white flowers bringing much needed colour to gardens.

Photinia when grown as a large shrub, hedge or small tree, it can reach a height of over 6m (20ft) but can be pruned to a smaller size.

Where to Plant

Plant full sun to partial shade, slightly acidic soil, water well first year, 3-5 per metre.   Photinia red robin is very responsive to hard pruning and to shaping into pyramids, and columns.  Ultimate height and spread - 2m x3m

**Scot Plants Direct can only supply bareroot plants when they are dormant during the winter months from November to March annually.

Common questions

Bare root plants are field-grown and lifted dormant — the cheapest way to plant a hedge. Pot grown plants have an established root system and can be planted year-round. Root ball plants are mature field-grown plants lifted with a soil ball for instant height.
Pot grown plants can go in the ground at any time of year. Bare root is supplied dormant from November to March, and root ball plants are lifted in that same window.
3 plants per metre for a standard single-row hedge, or 5 per metre (staggered double row) for a dense screen.
