Description

Forsythias are one of the toughest, most reliable early flowering shrub..  Forsythias are one of the most extraordinary shrubs that ring in the spring.  Bursting into colour with yellow / golden, bell shaped flowers on bare branches from February to April is a delight to witness just when winter is coming to an end.  They are a fast-growing deciduous shrub generally found in landscapes as informal hedging. Forsythias grow and flower in full sun or very light shade, well-draining moist soil.

Where to Plant

Forsythia pruning should be done immediately after flowering as the plants bloom on wood produced the previous summer.  They can be planted against walls or fences, used as hedging or included in hedging schemes.  No matter where they are planted, they will be traffic stoppers - absolutely stunners with graceful cascading branches of the brightest golden - yellow flowers!  Ultimate height about 4m x 4m in about 10 years.
