Carmen bears deep red bell shaped flowers in May that will dazzle any garden. The leaves are leathery and deep green. A dense but spreading low shrub for partial shade. Ultimate height and spread - 0.5m x 0.5-1m in 10-20 years. Great location for Rhododendrons is near a tree that will provide them shade – make sure the shade tree is compatible with them and will not mind acid soil and have shallow roots - if the shade tree has shallow roots like the Azaleas and Rhododendrons, they will compete for nutrients.
Where to Plant
Rhododendrons can also be planted full sun, well draining soil, but slightly acidic. Water well during dry spells.
