The term Perennial is reserved for plants that live for more than two years. It is more commonly referred to as herbaceous perennials or non-woody plants that die back to the ground each fall and the regrow in spring.  Perennial plants remain in the ground year after year and once established need minimal upkeep in the form of watering and fertilising.  Many perennials spread readily, filling out garden spaces and providing more and more colour each year.
