Description
Unusual peeling bark when mature which makes this specimen ideal. Diabolo is easy to grow in average, dry to medium well drained soil in full sun to partial shade. It will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. Diabolo is a purple leaved deciduous shrub with an upright, spreading habit. Small pinkish-white flowers in dense, flat rounded clusters appear in late spring. Diabolo or Ninebark when mature will have exfoliating bark which peels in strips to reveal several layers of reddish to light brown inner bark - providing winter interest which is usually hidden by foliage during the growing season. Ideal for use as a specimen or en mass planting. Great for shrub borders, hedges, screening or erosion control on banks. Prune immediately after bloom. Ultimate height and spread 4m x 4m.
Where to Plant
Plants may be cut to the ground in winter to rejuvenate. A vigorous shrub that seems to be able to grow well in harsh conditions.
