Description
Schizophragma Roseum is a vigorous climbing shrub similar to hydrangea petiolaris but with heart shaped leaves, small creamy white flowers, softly scented and surrounded by white bracts aging to a rosy pink.
This Japanese hydrangea is ideal for covering large walls, fences, taught to climb trellis, etc. It is slow to establish, but once established is a vigorous grower. It will cope well with most conditions in the UK and soil types except extremely alkaline soils. Its aerial roots help the plant attach itself for support.
Where to Plant
Plant in full sun to partial shade, well-draining soil. Flowering period about July. Fully hardy. Slower to establish than the petiolaris, but its slow growth makes it perfect for those smaller places and its flowers will be more interesting.
