Description
Parthenocissus quinquefolia more commonly called Virginia Creeper is a vigorous, self clinging climbing plant with five-pointed, deeply divided, mid green leaves which turn brilliant shades of crimson-red in autumn. Awarded RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit). It is a fast growing and needs regular pruning to keep under control.
Ideal for trellises, archways, wallsides as it climbs and attaches to bark or masonary by means of tendrils and suckers without damaging the structures where it quickly covers an area of about 12m x 6m. Virginia Creeper is also a great source of food for birds in the winter.
Where to Plant
Planting in full or partial shade will result in the best autumn colour. Tolerates most soil conditions and will grow in anywhere it has space. Ultimate height and spread – 15m x 8m after 10 years.
