Wisteria Blue Moon is a hardy wisteria that can withstand temperatures to almost -40 degrees. Blue moon is fast growing and can bloom up to three times a year once established and if grown in full sun. It has beautiful lavender-blue flowers that are borne on foot long racemes and sweetly aromatic.
Wisteria Blue Moon is sometimes known as the Kentucky wisteria, and is a deciduous vine that is native to the southcentral US and can be found in in swampy woods, along the borders of swamps and low streams and is well noted for its excellent winter hardiness and ability to produce flowers in the colder regions.
Blue moon can grow to about 15-25 feet producing long racemes of pea-like blue flowers that cause a very dramatic floral display of its long lavender -blue flowers. Excellent for pergolas, posts, trellises, fences, terrace walls, and above patios.
Where to Plant
Plant in slightly acidic, moist, well-draining soil and in full sun for best flowering results. Wisteria Blue moon will need space and support on which to grow. It may be slow to start but should produce flowers by its second or third year, if not longer. Pruning for this wisteria should be kept to a minim, pruning back tips after blooming or in the winter. Choose growing site wisely as plants hate transplanting.
