Description
Aucuba japonica is an evergreen shrub with leather like toothed leaves, spotted with a gold colour more commonly known as the Spotted Laurel. Springtime flowers are small, purple, followed by clusters of red berries in the autumn. Growth habit is compact, spreading, upright, easy to maintain. Ideal for banks and slopes, city, coastal situations, containers, hedging and screening. Drought tolerant. Ultimate height and spread 2.5m x 2.5m in 10-20 years.
Where to Plant
Plant full shade to partial shade, moist but well draining soil. Tolerates most soil types but not waterlogged areas. Variegated cultivar is female and will need male pollinator nearby to produce berries.
