Where to Plant
Planting out of doors in the UK requires the warmest, sunniest and best sheltered position in the garden. The soil should be warm by using polythene, weed control or cloches about 2-3 weeks before planting out of doors. Plant once there is no risk of frost. Plant about 60cm apart. Young plants would need to be covered with fleece or cloche for about 1 or 2 weeks to get used to the outside environment.
Aubergine Plants may need staking as they can become top heavy. Pinch out the top tip of the main stem of thew Aubergine Plant to encourage side shoots when the plant is about 1 ft high or thereabouts.
Water regularly and do not forget to fertilise with high potash fertiliser once the first fruit starts to form. Great way to discourage red spider if plant under cover is to mist the leaves of the aubergine plants about 2 times a day with tepid water.
When there are about 5-6 fruits forming, remove any further flower. Harvest the fruit as soon as they are ripe, with glossy skin about August onward.
