The genus Saxifraga is an extensive range of perennial plants, many of which are alpines. There are some 400 plus known species, many of which are worth growing. There are three main sections that are of garden interest, the mossies (saxifrage), the silvers (ligulatae) and the Kabschia and Engleria (Porphyrion). Gardeners are hugely attracted to the diversity of the plants themselves as some come from exposed mountains, moist woodlands, some are easy to and some are difficult to grow. Saxifrages are both beautiful in foliage and flower and no alpine or rockery garden will be complete without a few Saxifraga. The group called s.opposityifolia is mostly everything else in alpines. This particular group of saxifraga grows well in Scotland where the climate is cooler and a bit more moist. These are the true mountain plants and are found in the hills of the UK. Available in a special Collection 6 Pack and ready to plant.
