The Yoshino Cherry is one of the most popular and most planted cherry trees in Japan. It is a beautiful and elegant, medium sized cherry tree, covered in fragrant small pink/ white flowers from April onwards.
The Yoshino Cherry tree is ideal for gardens as it is a small deciduous tree with broad spreading branches and stunning green ovate leaves when young. Its growth is quite spectacular with the tree at first a large shrub and then forming into a tree. The colour of its branches is brownish /red. Spring foliage leaves are yellow/green, and fall foliage varies from bright red or yellow. The Somei Yoshino Cherry is unusual in that its wood colour will be dark, almost black.
