Pyracantha also known as Firethorn is a large evergreen bush with throny stems and bright red, orange or yellow berries in the winter. They are often planted as hedges or as isolated specimens. Pyrcantha are great when used as thorny barriers! The key ornamental feature is the berry, which is best represented in the winter when they colour any drab winter garden. Pyrcantha is a fast growing evergreen shrub able to add as much as two feet in height per year or more. Pruning is easy – do so in late winter. A magnificent plant for many uses!
