Scots Pine (Pinus Sylvestris)

Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) is a slow growing, evergreen conifer widely used in landscape schemes, ie, parks, gardens, and woodland areas. It is perfectly happy to be planted as a specimen or in a group and will tolerate almost any soil condition. It is the most widely distributed conifer in the world and is  indigenous to Scotland.

The wood from the Scots Pine has been an important part of the timber industry since the early 1600’s and was used for telegraph poles to furniture. Pine needles of the Scots Pine are in pairs, blue green and slightly twisted, with striking orange-red bark on young plants becoming grey and fissured when they mature.
