Ash leaves are the latest to appear in spring and are graceful and arranged in pairs, lance shaped slightly toothed edges. Spring buds are black and woolly and from them the male or female flowers develop. It is the female flowers that develop into fruit. Ash is good on moist soils, even those that are seasonally waterlogged and is excellent for coastal positions. Great for wildlife
